the first cd in this 4pack is worth the 10$ charles mingus on bass, red norvo on vibes, and of course tal on guitar. wonderful version of night and day(a song i have by many artist, but this one shines brightest)so if figured i was going get this to hear some early mingus, though i am amazed at them all. they compliment each other really well, dont guess ive heard many vibe, bass, guitar trios, its perfect, with the combination of mingus and norvo, you do not miss percussion, you only hear more bass and vibes. genuis. and tal and mingus, i hear so many influences, and this is a perfect example of clean jazz, that paved roads for rock musicians, esp the solo, the speed and intensity are incredible considering the year, there is alot going on, yet the players are not always "busy" the bass, vibes and guitar sometimes seem to melt, and what you think was a guitar, was red, and what seems like bass, was tal there was a definite chemistry between these three.as for tal farlow, he carries the first cd all the way, yet he does not demand the entire spotlight, he playing seems to fit around mingus and norvo, and thiers around his, i may not get to disc 2 for days.at this price this collection belongs in every jazz fans collection,
